Welcome to our 5th Mystery Knit Afghan! It is hard to believe that we have done 5 of these MKAL’s already. They have become more and more popular. It is so neat to see so many knitters finishing these great afghans! I have really enjoyed what you all have done. It is amazing to see the finished afghans. It brings joy to my heart to see my patterns being knit and loved!
New to our Mystery Knit Afghans? I started the Mystery Knit Afghan as I found it difficult to finish an afghan when the same pattern is knit all the way through. It got quite boring for me. I like to keep knitting interesting and challenging. So, I decided to design an afghan with many different sections. Each section is a different pattern, but flows nicely with the previous section. I found that these afghans began to fly off my needles. I have gotten so many comments from Mystery Afghan Knitters on how much they enjoy the afghans! If you haven’t knit one of these afghans, it is time you join us! You will have so much fun as we all knit together and share our projects and questions along the way!
The theme for the 2021 Afghan is Patchwork Cables. Each section features a unique design of beautiful cables. It is a completely seamless knit! I must admit that I have fallen in love with knitting cables. They are so amazing to design and knit! I have had so many comments on my Seamless Square Knit Afghan, that I decided this year I will do a similar style. This afghan will be rectangles knit together to create an afghan. The best part is that this afghan is completely seamless! You will not have to sew the rectangles together at the end.
How it Works
Our afghan pattern is a one time purchase. Upon purchase you will receive an information packet, including info on yarn type, yardage, and needles. Then, on January 15th, you will receive clue #1, followed by 7 more instalments throughout the year.

Yarn:
There are two different yarns this year. This afghan was designed with Knit Picks Simply Wool Worsted yarn, however, due to a yarn shortage, we had to come up with a substitute. The substitute yarn is Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted Yarn.
Yarn 1: Knit Picks Simply Wool Worsted
Yarn 2: Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted Yarn
Knitting Needles:
5 mm [8 US] long circular needles
Gauge: 18 stitches x 26 rows = 4″ x 4″ (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch.
Sizes:
There are 3 different style blankets. Each size requires a different amount of yarn.
Standard Size Afghan 48” x 60” (122 cm x 153 cm )
Bonus Size 60” x 72” (153 cm x 183 cm), or
Lap Blanket Size 36” x 48” (91 cm x 122 cm)
Colour Palettes:
We have designed 8 colour palettes for each specific yarn you to choose from. This year, the amount of yardage for each colour is more complicated because of the design. You are welcome to make your own colour palette. We have included a blank palette for you to use. This afghan will be stunning in multicolours as well as one solid colour. You get to choose!
The first group under each palette are for Simply Wool Worsted and the second group is for Wool of the Andes Worsted Yarn
We are offering a coupon for our suggested yarn for a limited time!
