Have you ever tried knitting in the round? If you haven’t, it can seem very daunting. Don’t let it scare you! I have had a few questions directed my way about how to knit in the round. It is a difficult concept to explain without showing it step by step, so I have created a video to help you get started!
TOP 4 REASONS FOR KNITTING IN THE ROUND
• no sewing
• beautiful seamless look
• easier to work with circular needles
• no working on the wrong-side
I for one, do not like sewing pieces of a garment together. If you knit a sweater in the round, there is absolutely no seaming! I also like the look of seamless knits better too. I love the feel of circular needles, I find them easier to control than straight needles. Another bonus to working in the round is that you are always working on the RS of the garment. You don’t need to work on the WS. This is great especially if there are a lot of knits. You will zip through the knit without having to work the purls on the WS.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO GET STARTED?
All you need is a set of circular needles and a round marker. Working in the round is the same as working straight, except you work in rounds instead of rows. Once you have these, refer to the video for instructions.
Please note, I forgot to mention that once you knit the first round, it is beneficial to add a round marker where one round ends and the next begins. When you are knitting in the round, it is easy to lose where the beginning/end of a round is. This round marker will make your life much easier!
Good luck and happy knitting! 🙂 I hope you master knitting in the round!
Feeling like you’ve got this? Here are a few of my patterns which I think shine when knit in the round.
