Knitting the double chain cast on in the rounds, is only slightly different than knitting the double chain cast on in rows. My tutorial How to Knit the Double Chain Cast On in rows will still apply. However, the difference will be in how you join the round. I have created a tutorial on how you accomplish this cast on when knitting in the round. This cast on can be used for sweaters, hats, mittens, etc.
I must admit, that I use this cast on for most of my projects. Hats, sweaters, blankets, scarves, mittens, etc. Once you master the cast on, it is easy to use. I enjoy how neat and smooth the cast on edge becomes. This cast on is also the same on both sides, so it doesn’t matter if you are knitting in the round or in rows.
One of my favourite things about this cast on, is that it is the same on both sides. It doesn’t matter then if you are knitting in rows or in the round. Both sides of the cast on could be the RS.
You will need a needle (or a circular needle) and a crochet hook to work this cast on. Once you have mastered this technique, it becomes a quick and easy cast on. You might just be hooked as I have become. A neat knitted cast on edge adds so much to any knitted garment.
I use this cast on in most of my hats. The Simplicity Hat and Cowl set are both designed with this cast on. The Winter Joy Hat Knitting pattern also uses this cast on. Give this cast on a whirl and let us know what you think!
