If you have never knit a seamless knit before, you may wonder why people are raving about seamless knitting. I absolutely love seamless knitting. When I started knitting 13 years ago, I started knitting sweaters in pieces. I did not like knitting in pieces with all of the sewing it required. Once I started seamless knitting, I was hooked.

WHAT IS SEAMLESS KNITTING?
Seamless knitting is a garment that is knit in the round or on circular needles. It is knit in one piece and there is NO seaming at the end. There are many versions of a seamless sweater. The version I like is the raglan sweater. A raglan sweater is knit from the top down, starting with the collar. The sleeves are worked at the same time as the body until the armpit. At the armpit the sleeve stitches are placed on stitch holders. The body is knit. After the body is knit, the sleeves are knit on dpns or with magic loop in the round. Thus, the body and the sleeves are completely seamless.

A seamless hat is also knit in the round on circular needles. DPNs or magic loop finish off the top of the hat. This also doesn’t require any seaming.

ARE YOU INTERESTED NOW? HERE ARE THE REASONS WHY I AM HOOKED ON SEAMLESS KNITS:
1. ONE CONTINUOUS PIECE
A seamless knit is knit in one piece. You do not need to knit multiple pieces separately. A seamed sweater is knit in 5 separate pieces. Quite a big difference!
2. TIME SAVER
A seamless knit knits up a lot faster. You definitely save time with sewing at the end, but I feel the biggest time saver is motivation. It is much easier to stay motivated with a top down, seamless sweater. As you knit, the sweater take shape without having to seam.

3. NO SEAMS AND NO SEWING
Have you ever had to take out a seam and resew it because it doesn’t line up just right? I detest sewing pieces of a knit garment together. With a seamless knit, there are NO seams.
No seams = less stress and saves time.
4. LESS YARN ENDS TO HIDE
Who loves weaving in yarn ends? I don’t. It takes time. A seamless knit has a lot less yarn ends to hide and weave in at the end.
5. FINISHED LOOK IS MUCH NEATER
There are no seams to cause a break in the knit garment. The sleeves of a sweater fit perfectly
in the body.
6. KNIT IN THE ROUND
I love circular needles. They are much easier on my hands. When working in the round, you
are always working on the RS of a garment. You can always see the pattern.
7. JOY TO KNIT
I find seamless knits a joy to knit and fun to wear! Remember, it is a key attribute of a pattern to be interested in the knit to stay motivated. Seamless knits keep me knitting and motivate me to finish quickly so I can wear or gift the garment! I find seamless knits very rewarding.
If you haven’t knit a seamless sweater, give it a whirl! I know you will be hooked. Get my Little Cora’s sweater pattern or my Baby Cable Sweater. Either of these patterns would be a great beginner seamless sweater knit.
